The Opportunity 
We are looking for a talented Firmware Engineer to join our growing product engineering team. In this role you will design, develop, test, and maintain VHDL and C code to required specifications. In VHDL you will contribute to implement our signal processing chain for our Baraja LiDAR. In C you will develop routines supporting the signal processing. This opportunity offers flexibility and ability to think “outside the box”, to come up with innovative solutions to unusual problems.


Inside the Job

  • Develop VHDL code and identify improvements to existing code.
  • Manage FPGA implementation process, including placement, timing closure, debugging.
  • Develop Proof-of-Concept builds to test and evaluate the new algorithms performance.
  • Develop automated test scripts (Python).
  • Develop automated test benches (VHDL) and scripts (Python) for simulation and test.
  • Work with systems, production, quality management, and customer support teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Guide technicians and junior engineers.
  • Present design alternatives and experimental results to the product development team for review, and review other team member’s designs.

About You

  • Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, Software/Electrical/Electronic engineering or equivalent.
  • Current permit to work full time in Australia on an ongoing basis.
  • Experience developing VHDL code (3+ years).
  • Experience with FPGA build and verification process.
  • Experience with test automation and Python.
  • Experience using GIT or another version control tool.
  • Experience with CI/CD flow and tools like Jenkins.
  • Passionate about software development.
  • Professional, customer-focused attitude.


  • Experience developing C code on embedded platforms like ARM or PIC.
  • Experience with Xilinx Ultrascale SoC series.
  • Experience with Xilinx HLS design flow.
  • Experience using an RTOS, preferably automotive qualified.
  • Experience with product development in a regulated environment (medical, automotive, defense, rail).
  • Ability to read and analyse electronic schematics.
