About the role:
Reporting to our Head of Platform Engineering, we are looking for a Junior Support Engineer who has experience with end-user computing support (MacOS and Windows) as well as being knowledgeable in Linux with scripting experience. The role will be split between desktop support for the Data Republic team and ad hoc work for our Platform team who look after infrastructure and application management for the Data Republic Platform.

A technically capable team player:
As a Junior Support Engineer, you will become a part of our growing Platform Engineering team. In this exciting role you will need to think on your feet, be a great team player and contribute towards your team’s success.

Your work will be distributed between initiatives to advance Data Republic’s technology stack, help development teams release new features as well as keeping the lights on.

You will need to understand the specifics of managing large-scale distributed systems, and also have a keen interest in continuing to learn and grow.

What you’ll need:
  • Linux administration and troubleshooting experience
  • End-user computing support experience with MacOS and Windows
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP stack, routing, firewalling, DNS etc.)
  • Scripting skills (Shell, Python etc.)
  • Customer focus and excellent communication skills
  • Growth mindset - desire to learn and excel

Bonus points if you have:
  • Application containers (Docker)
  • Cloud infrastructure (AWS)
  • Configuration management (Saltstack, Puppet, Ansible etc.)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or AWS CloudFormation)
  • Git
  • Release/pipeline automation (Github Actions, Bamboo etc.)
